Indian Idol!

I find it unbelievable that people resorted to such violence on the streets on the basis of the remark that was made by the RJ. I would consider torching vehicles, stopping an ambulance from passing through and attacking people a far graver offence than making a statement of the kind which R J Nitin did. And did he mean anything derogatory aimed at a specific community. I doubt it. And why I'm saying so is that I've often heard his shows and I've seen the way he makes fun of things and people, but never aimed at any specific community or person. I think we need to stop taking everything so seriously as if it is meant as a personal insult. Which one of us has not had a laugh at the expense of Sikhs/ Santa Banta Jokes? Things should be taken in the spirit in which they have been said and not blown out of proportion like they are being done right now. And as I read in the news, the RJ has apologised for hurting the sentiments of the community. Can we please start taking things in the spirit in which they are said? We really need to learn the ability to laugh at ourselves. Even if we feel that what is said is not right and should not have been said, there is always a way to protest. Violence is not the answer to everything that we don't agree with.

Back to blogging?? :-)
Goood..
Feeling insulted is alright. Its not correct cracking jokes on any community you get your hands on. All are not sardars afterall..:p
I sometimes doubt if everyone in the mob is insulted even..People who dont have anything better to do get into such shameful acts.. Who has the time for creating havoc in the street?? Its the people who have nothing better to do.. And this holds true 99 percent of the time.. Very few incidents actually infuriate a common man..The rest of the times its the "Vella Man" who has nothing else to do, so he jumps into the street disturbing the peace of the common man..

I think it reflects our lack of tolerance...it is also reflective of the regionalism that exists...and as some one wrote above, its the people with nothing better to do that are readily available to hit the streets and bring lives of others to a halt as well.

as for laughing on ourselves...yes we should...but respect can not be compromised for that. it would be a sad day when the only jokes that we can think of are those that belittle another community.

guess i missed this one... well i don't see the reality shows ... infact it is limited to laughter shows and business news and little bit of sports ... tv has really become an Idiot box now...

@anirudh, hey thanks :)

@siddharth, this is a better way to discuss that..:)
Yes, I agree.. regionalism exists, and there is a tendency to make fun of people who are different from you. I dont noe if the RJ went overboard.. he's been taken off air. The I&B Ministry wants to take the chanel off for a week.. Thankfully the TDSAT has yet to decide on it.. I think this is overreaction.

@Manish, You know just day before yesterday I was thinking..seeign all those pics of gandhiji on gandhi jayanti.. I wish we had a mass leader like that today.. I'm not on the ideaology bit or antyhing else.. just the leadership, the way he managed to somehow create this mass movement..quiet amazign wasnt it..

@chaos, good u missed it actually :) lol.. I dont watch too much of TV too, but I do sometiems catch these reality shows, they are still better than all those soaps on TV!
