Too many depressing posts..no more :)

Saw this on Rathna's blog.. it's some bits from a speech by Steve Jobs that I really liked:

Don't lose faith. I'm convinced that the only thing that kept me going was that I loved what I did. You've got to find what you love. And that is as true for your work as it is for your lovers. Your work is going to fill a large part of your life, and the only way to be truly satisfied is to do what you believe is great work. And the only way to do great work is to love what you do. If you haven't found it yet, keep looking. Don't settle. As with all matters of the heart, you'll know when you find it. And, like any great relationship, it just gets better and better as the years roll on. So keep looking until you find it. Don't settle.


When I was 17, I read a quote that went something like: "If you live each day as if it was your last, someday you'll most certainly be right." It made an impression on me, and since then, for the past 33 years, I have looked in the mirror every morning and asked myself: "If today were the last day of my life, would I want to do what I am about to do today?" And whenever the answer has been "No" for too many days in a row, I know I need to change something.

Remembering that I'll be dead soon is the most important tool I've ever encountered to help me make the big choices in life. Because almost everything — all external expectations, all pride, all fear of embarrassment or failure - these things just fall away in the face of death, leaving only what is truly important. Remembering that you are going to die is the best way I know to avoid the trap of thinking you have something to lose. You are already naked. There is no reason not to follow your heart.

No one wants to die. Even people who want to go to heaven don't want to die to get there. And yet death is the destination we all share. No one has ever escaped it. And that is as it should be, because Death is very likely the single best invention of Life. It is Life's change agent. It clears out the old to make way for the new. Right now the new is you, but someday not too long from now, you will gradually become the old and be cleared away. Sorry to be so dramatic, but it is quite true.

Your time is limited, so don't waste it living someone else's life. Don't be trapped by dogma — which is living with the results of other people's thinking. Don't let the noise of others' opinions drown out your own inner voice. And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. They somehow already know what you truly want to become. Everything else is secondary.

Previously i also used to believe in the fact that "Love what you do" but you know its by chance that i changed my mind today ,due to some reasons, and now i believe that there is limit upto which you kan flex urself.
Its good to follow this principle but you know sometimes it tends to act as roadblock in your path to success, you goal attainment.
Love is good but not the love which comes from after reading the above mentioned lines.

So its all situation dependent, like sometimes we have to do something and thn if there is no option available then we should do that thing with full heart rather than just for the sake of doing that. But make sure that in the process of doing you are not going far away fom your LOVE , your true passion.

Exemplary speech from an exemplary man. Though people sometime tend to forget that he was almost written off in the technology world and it was almost by luck that he had a second coming. I do not say that you shouldnt follow your heart, but then you should be afraid of failing. If you truly believe in what you do success is just a byproduct. Something like If by Kipling...

You can watch the entire speech here. My management professor showed it to us on the first day of class. Apparently, he's big on entrepreneurship and really wanted us to do what we loved.

I just hope that Steve Jobs stops spending time on writing awesome speeches ON IMMEDIATE BASIS and thinks about launching iPHONE as soon as possible coz the wait is unbearable.

I have been pondering over this cyclic behavious of ours..
most of us..
with the ups and downs of lifes..
happiness and otherwise,..
the flux of right or wrog..
feeling great about something or otherwise..
but I know for sure that all "complex" looking things in life almost always have very soimple answers..
Humans have a tendencey to make things complex!!

Courage is definitely needed to follow what ones' heart likes especially in the face of expectations and aspirations of our loved ones not to talk of peer and societal pressure. So what've u been up to...sounds like something is not upto ur full liking?

Prashant puts it in a nice way...and yeah...don't drift too far from ur true passion!

But don't we find too many people heart-broke by their girls/boys and don't we also find many people unsatisfied by their job!
As far as job goes, i believe the culprit is our educational and social set up - parents thrusting their choices on kids rather than allowing them to explore the world around.
But gladly the change is visible on both fronts of this love.

Second, try reading speeches/writings of people who've failed. Successful people can say many things that they don't mean, but a failure will never make up!

yeah nice things here....but i doubt whether practically is it possible to always follow ones intuition, likes, loves! Many reasonably deterring factors pop up in everybodys life. Upto a certain extent one can certainly do and generally people do that.

@Prashant, well.. i think if we find somethign we love, then we dont need tht effort just comes effortlessly :) on the other hand i do believe that whatever u do, be it something you love or u dont.. do it with all the heart tht u have.. cause only then can u succeed..and cause only then will u be of some value to anyone or anything.. tough to explain and i dont think i hv been able to :)

@Vibhanshu, ur right, success will come at its own sweet time, its so tough to keep telling tht to urself though isnt it?
